Las Bocas Beach Vacation Home
Maps and Local Destinations
MAP LINK OF MEXICO: www.virtualmex.com/newmap.htm
VACATIONING IN LAS BOCAS: Las Bocas is not any kind of resort community. Most of our neighbors at the beach are Mexican families from Navojoa or Obregon who have their beach house as a second home. There are very few people who speak English there. Our local caretakers do not speak any English and our property manager speaks limited English.
FISHING: Fish from the beach or bring your own boat. There are not any launch facilities, so boats must be carried to the water.
BOATING: Bring your kayak and paddle the endless Sea of Cortez coastline.
SHOPPING: Las Bocas is a small, quiet fishing village with few stores to speak of. The most common items available at Las Bocas are Pacifico beer, propane and purified water. There is also a very small Mexican bakery and fresh fish or shrimp can be purchased off the fishing boats when they come in. The closest city to Las Bocas is Navojoa, population 180,000, about 40 minutes away. Navojoa has several major grocery stores, similar in style to US grocery chains. Most typical city stores and services are available there along with medical facilities.
NEARBY DESTINATIONS:
ALAMOS: Alamos is a beautiful inland city (population 10,000) founded in 1681. It is about a one hour drive from Las Bocas. Over 180 structures in Alamos are listed as National Historic Monuments. Many of the historic colonial city roads paved with stone. The surrounding area includes estuaries alive with birds and sea life (just South of Las Bocas), Mayo villages, a mining town, rivers where you can take float trips and trails for horseback riding. Alamo is also known for its many beautiful and unique resort hotels and inns, as well as wonderful restaurants. www.alamosrealty.com
THE COPPER CANYON: The Copper Canyon, which is four times larger than the Grand Canyon, is a spectacular destination. The Copper Canyon train can be boarded in El Fuerte or Los Mochis which is approximately a 90 minute drive south of Las Bocas. The Copper Canyon is inhabited by the Tarahumara Indians, the second largest population of native people in Mexico. Today the Tarahumara live in caves, under cliffs and in small wood and stone cabins in remote areas of the Canyon. They live a simple life undisturbed by modern technologies. www.mexicoscoppercanyon.com
THE BAJA FERRY: Visit Baja via the ferry. Travel on foot or with your vehicle from Guaymas (3 hours north of Las Bocas) to Santa Rosalia or from Topolobampo (near Los Mochis) to La Paz. http://escapist.com/baja/ferry.htm
